Taylor Silverman: “I’m speaking out for all female athletes and the next generation of girls who may never get to experience equal opportunity and fairness in sports”
WASHINGTON, D.C. - As the national debate over the transgender issue and allowing men to participate in women’s athletics rages, leading national moms’ group, Moms for America, held a press conference on Captiol Hill on Wednesday with a number of Congresswomen and female athletes to demand that the U.S. Senate schedule a vote on H.R. 734, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023.
Introduced in February and passed by the House of Representatives, the Protection of Women and Girls in Spots Act of 2023 prohibits athletic programs designed for women and girls from allowing the participation of individuals born as biological males, echoing a number of similar bills passed at the state level over the past year.
Featured speakers at the press conference included Rep. Mary Miller (R,IL-15), Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R,TN-1), Idaho State Rep. Barbara Ehardt, competitive skateboarder Taylor Silverman, Harvard University swimmer Abby Carr, and Debbie Kraulidis, Vice President of Moms for America.
“I know what it is like to lose out on earned recognition, podium spots, paychecks, and opportunities to males competing in female sports after experiencing it three different times in skateboarding. Two of those times I was bumped out of first place,” noted Silverman. “At 28, I’m aware I won’t be competing in skateboarding forever. I’m speaking out for all female athletes and the next generation of girls who may never get to experience equal opportunity and fairness in sports,” she said.
“As a mother of 5 daughters, I am horrified by the Biden Administration’s push to force biological men into girls' sports,” said Rep. Miller. “Allowing biological men into women’s locker rooms not only undermines the integrity of women's athletics, but also puts our daughters at risk,” she continued.
“Regardless of how an individual identifies, there are innate biological differences between men and women, and these differences become unavoidable on the playing field,” said Kraulidis. “The Left wants us to ignore these differences in the name of so-called ‘equality,’ but to deny that these differences exist is to deny the very existence of girls and women themselves,” she said. “It also puts our daughters in danger.”
