Moms speak out against effort to make Ventura schools a “sanctuary” for transgender children
VENTURA, CA – Tarin Swain, Director of Communications for Moms For America, was booed and then silenced while offering public comment at a recent City Council meeting after she began praying to God in Jesus’ name to give strength to opponents of a measure that would make Ventura a “sanctuary” for illegal immigrants, abortion, and transitioning of minors without parental consent.
“We don’t do prayer,” the Ventura mayor told Swain when she invoked God’s support and protection during her allotted speaking time. Clips of the confrontation are now going viral on social media.
"I was there specifically because a Ventura County public school socially transitioned my daughter without my consent,” Swain explained. “They changed her gender and name and purposely kept it from me, so when I heard they were making Ventura a sanctuary city for minors to continue to be abused in these areas despite Trump’s recent executive orders, I knew I had to show up and speak out.”
The council’s plan to impose the Community Autonomy, Rights, and Equality (CARE) Policy was met with vociferous opposition from the local community, with well over 100 concerned residents showing up to urge the council to reconsider.
“I never intended to pray during my time. I had a full speech prepared. But when they told me they had cut my time from 3 minutes to just 60 seconds, I felt the Lord lead me to pray instead, so that’s what I did,” Swain said. “The fact that these people were so offended by a simple prayer says a lot about their larger agenda.”
Caught flat-footed by the unexpected outpouring of public anger, the council temporarily pulled the measure from consideration, but plans to revisit it again in April.
